New Patients
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child’s first visit once the first tooth erupts, or by your child’s first birthday. While this is can be an ideal start, the staff at DC Pediatric Smiles is realistic. We recognize that scheduling to see a pediatric dentist at any age can be the first step toward a coordinated effort between patient, parent, and dental team in achieving optimal oral health for your child.
Please understand that an infant or toddler’s first dental visit is very different than what an adult is accustomed to at the dentist. Much of the appointment is a comfortable conversation between Dr Blank and a child’s parent discussing diet, brushing routines, and cavity risk factors.
When in doubt, it is always a good idea to consult with a pediatric dentist. From teething to bumps and falls, we will gladly take the time to examine and address any concerns you may have pertaining to your child’s teeth and dental development.
Children are often most alert and engaged when they are well rested. We advise that your first dental visit be scheduled in the morning to assure the best possible experience for your child in our office.
We gladly accept new patients! To schedule your appointment, please click the ‘Request an Appointment” button, or if you prefer to call the office we will happily schedule you over the phone at 301-363-9026.
The DCPS Experience
At DC Pediatric Smiles, we understand that a child’s experience with dentistry is a journey. Each child enters our office at a different stage along that journey. Dr Blank and his team are specially trained to identify how to help your child feel comfortable and develop a patient-provider foundation of trust. Our Laugh.Grow.Smile. approach is critical to this success.
Laugh.
Teeth aside for a moment, we want to start by learning about your child. Your child’s interest in music, sports, language, art, and dance. What makes your child excited? And of course, essential questions like… Paw Patrol or Cars? …Daniel Tiger or Nemo? …And Anna or Elsa? (or Olaf?).
Grow.
At each appointment, Dr Blank and the team at DCPS aim to make a real, direct impression on your child. The goal? To instill one pearl of practical dental knowledge in your child’s memory. Sometimes this can be a brushing demonstration, a new way to hold floss, or even a healthy snacking tip.
SMILE.
At the end of the first appointment, we strive for your child to leave the office grinning from ear-to-ear. Does this really happen? Yes, most of the time. And when it doesn’t, we work even harder to ensure that we improve your child’s level of familiarity and enthusiasm with each subsequent appointment.
